Fun with Gingham!

I am loving the fabulous new stamps from this month's release! How about you? Got a favorite? My favorites seem to be the awesome Market Street background stamps. They are wonderful! I can't get enough of them! The idea for this tutorial came to me while I was playing around with the new Gingham background stamp set and I couldn't wait till it was my turn to share here on the blog.

The Gingham background stamp is great on its own, but why not have some fun and take it a step further?
Plaids are hot right now (aren't they always?), and I thought how fun it would be to use that fab Gingham background stamp to make some fun plaid designs.

Here's what you'll need:

The Gingham background (of course)
an ink pad (I'm using a very dark brown)
some markers with two different size tips in colors to coordinate with your ink pad
a ruler

Here's what you do:
ink up your stamp and stamp onto a piece of card stock of your choice.


Take one of your markers, and using the broad tip and the ruler, begin drawing lines along the grid of the gingham design.


It should look something like this when you're done.


Now flip your paper and begin drawing lines going the other way.


Like this.


Now take your second marker, and using the fine tip, draw lines close to the lines you've just drawn with the other marker. My lines will be hard to see because I'm using a yellow marker.


Flip your paper again and draw lines going the other way. See that cool plaid? Fun, right?


Then I used it to make a simple card. I just love the plaid look. This one is perfect for the guys or for a fall card.


And the possibilities are virtually endless! Switch up your marker colors, the width of the tips, the amount of lines you draw, and how where you space them. I played around with a selection of markers and ink pads, and came up with several different designs, but I could have done a LOT more! Here are just a few that I came up with.

Use your imagination and just have fun with it!
